Richard Hughes has over 30 years of experience as a solicitor. He started as a trainee in a high street practice in Newcastle Upon Tyne dealing with a wide range of legal issues. Once qualified and admitted as a Solicitor Richard decided to specialise in criminal law.
In 1998 Richard moved back to Liverpool and worked in a local firm as head of the criminal department before moving to Canter Levin & Berg in 2000.
In 2017 Richard and his fellow directors set up a dedicated criminal practice “Canters Crime Solicitors”
Over the last thirty years Richard has gained extensive experience dealing with a wide range of criminal cases including high profile murder and drug cases as well as serious fraud. Richard has considerable experience dealing with all types of magistrates court cases including motoring matters.
Richard undertakes advocacy in the Magistrates court all over the country and in addition specialises in youth court work, as well as holding a Higher Rights qualification allowing him to appear as an advocate in the Crown Court.
Richard also undertakes Prison Law cases and has appeared at numerous Parole Board hearings dealing with the potential release of offenders.
